Tornado watch issued for south and central Iowa, including Dallas County

This includes the county of Dallas, which has been placed under a tornado warning

For parts of southern and central Iowa on Saturday, the National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a tornado watch.

The tornado warning will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday for parts of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. There is also a possibility of hail the size of an apple, with wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.

Dallas County, which borders Polk County, is under tornado watch, but Polk County is not. Jim Lee, a meteorologist with the NWS in Des Moines, predicted that the city could see severe weather as well.

It's always a good idea to have at least two ways of receiving a warning, especially during the summer and on a Saturday night when so many people are used to outdoor activities," Lee said. Go inside immediately if you hear sirens or are in a warning.
