Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2022 result: Verstappen wins action-packed race in Baku as Leclerc
The result of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2022 is that Verstappen wins an exciting race in Baku while Leclerc comes in second
Max Verstappen of Red Bull won the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari both had engine problems and had to pull out of the race in Baku. This gave Verstappen a bigger lead in the world championship.
Sergio Perez, who was on Verstappen's team, took the lead from Charles Leclerc on the first lap of the race and ended up finishing second. Mercedes' George Russell took the last spot on the podium by finishing third.
Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth place after fighting through the pain caused by his car's shaking. Pierre Gasly of AlphaTauri finished in fifth place, which was his best result of the season. The rest of the top 10 were Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, and Esteban Ocon, all of whom earned important points.
Verstappen proves simply unstoppable
Even though Verstappen qualified third for the race, he drove like a grown-up to win 25 important points in Baku and get ahead of Leclerc in the drivers' championship. With the win, he was on the podium for the 66th time in F1. This was a record for Red Bull drivers, as the Dutchman passed Vettel in this category.
Sergio Perez is the fastest racer
Even though Verstappen won the race, he wasn't the best of the day. The Mexican driver Perez, who won the race in Monaco last time, did it again.Even though he wasn't as fast as his teammate in the end, Perez beat Verstappen by just four hundredths of a second to get the extra point for fastest lap around the Azerbaijan track.
Because of the result, Perez also moves up to second place in the drivers' world championship, passing Leclerc, who had another bad race day.
Double disaster for Ferrari
Even though Leclerc got a great pole position in Baku on Saturday, most of the talk before the race was about his disappointing last race in Monaco, when his team's decision to double-stack him cost them.
The Italian company was hoping that if they won another race here, it would take the attention away from them, but they ended up with a double DNF instead, which was very disappointing. When Sainz's engine broke down early in the race, he had to pull out before Leclerc's engine blew up on the long straight after the last turn.
