A US Air Force base was put on lockdown following reports of gunfire near the facility.

The scary warning was given at the Lackland Air Force Base in Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday morning.

"REAL WORLD ACTIVE SHOOTER ALERT: Reports of gunshots heard off-base near Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland AFB are currently being looked into by security forces and local police "On Twitter, JBSA said.

Police in San Antonio said that no one has been hurt and there is no threat to the community.The 911 call came from Medina Base Road, just outside the base's gate, according to the police.The Air Force base was given the all-clear about 30 minutes after the first lockdown.

The orders to lock down come less than a week after a military plane crash on June 8 that killed five US Marines.The plane, which was an MV-22B Osprey, was based at Camp Pendleton with Marine Aircraft Group 39. It was part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, which had its headquarters at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.

The MV-22B Osprey crashed in Imperial County, about 30 miles north of the US-Mexico border, at about 12:25 p.m. local time."We're sad that our Marines died in this terrible accident. We feel bad for their family and friends as they deal with this terrible news "Major General Bradford K. Gering, who is in charge of the 3rd MAW, said in a statement.

All of the men were part of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 364, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and were based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton in California.They have been named as Cpl. Nathan E. Carlson, 21, Captain Nicholas P. Losapio, 31, Cpl. Seth D. Rasmuson, 21, Captain John J. Sax, 33, and Lance Cpl. Cpl Evan A Strickland, 19.

In a statement, Lt Col John C. Miller said, "We mourn the loss of five Purple Fox Marines with heavy hearts.""This is a very hard time for VMM-364, and it's hard to say how much this loss has hurt our squadron and the families of its members."Our top priority right now is taking care of the families of our fallen Marines, and we ask that they be given privacy as they go through this hard time."We appreciate all the prayers and support from the strong Purple Fox family and want them to know that more information will be coming about how to help.
